Vintage Miniature Box Charm

Unit price perI found this miniature box charm in Newport, Rhode Island a few years back, when I had first started thinking about modifying vintage jewelry. The mystery of this charm, who made it and what was it used to hold? A single pill? A tiny love note? A snippet of hair or fur? I can’t know what this one once held, but I do know it will now have a new chapter with a new owner.
This vintage sterling silver miniature box appears to have been fabricated by hand rather than mass produced. It has a functional hinged lid and tiny clasp, and the bail itself is on a hinge. It has a lot of movement and I love how simple and beautifully made it is.
For my Reborn Vintage Collection, I restored the piece and added a pink sapphire set into a hand-engraved star setting on the tapered bail. That little pop of color feels like just enough while still keeping the original box as the focus.
I decided not to put this one on a chain because the bail has a nice, generous opening and can easily be added to a chain you already own. If you would like to purchase a chain separately, just reach out to me and I’d be happy to help.
Please note: Silver is less hard than gold, so please open and close the clasp with care. Due to the vintage nature of this piece, it may show subtle signs of wear consistent with its age and history. Every piece in the Reborn Vintage Collection has been carefully restored and is in strong, wearable condition. Preserving a bit of its past is intentional.

Please remove your this charm before swimming, bathing, or showering, and avoid ultrasonic or chemical jewelry cleaners. When not being worn, store it somewhere dry and protected from excess moisture.
